1922 Ford Model T Depot Hack. The Ford Model T Depot Hack was created to carry passengers and their luggage to and from the railway depots. This particular Ford was restored in 1985. The Ford Depot Hack is fitted with the demountable rims that became available on a broader range of vehicles that year. The rims allowed for easier flat repair, as the outer rim -- which held the tire -- could be separated from the wheel hub, which remained on the vehicle.
1942 Crosley Convertible The Crosley was an automobile manufactured by the Crosley Corporation and later by Crosley Motors Incorporated in the United States from 1939 to 1952. Powel Crosley, Jr., built one crude small car while a teenager at the turn of the century, then became a radio and refrigerator magnate in the '20s and '30s. But cars remained his first love, and in 1939 he entered the auto business in a big way with a very small product. Dreaming of an American “volkswagen,” he offered a tiny 80-inch-wheelbase two-cylinder job at the lowest price in the land: $325-$350. Measuring just 10 feet long and weighing less than half a ton, it garnered a modest 2017 sales for '39. To buy one, you visited a local hardware store or appliance shop -- a novel but shortsighted marketing scheme. Crosley Motors built about 5000 cars by 1942, when the government halted civilian production for the duration of World War II.

1965 Austin Mini Van The Mini is a small car that was produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC). The original is considered an icon of the 1960s. The vehicle is in some ways considered the British equivalent to its German contemporary, the Volkswagen Beetle, which enjoyed similar popularity in North America.
This distinctive two-door car was designed for BMC by Sir Alec Issigonis. Within these was a series of variations including an estate car, a pickup truck, a van and the Mini Moke — a jeep-like buggy. The Mini Cooper and Cooper “S” were sportier versions that were successful as rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally three times.
Minis were marketed under the Austin and Morris names until Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969.top of page

1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL In 1952, Mercedes-Benz astonished the racing world over the successes it achieved with its 300SL, exploiting an advanced space-type frame and aerodynamic body with gullwing doors. The racing 300SL inspired the creation of the production version, which first took flight in 1954. This 1956 300 SL, which is presently for sale at the Auto Collections, was completely restored in 1999 and is beautiful inside and out.

1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom Rolls-Royce has used the Phantom name on many exclusive luxury cars over the past century. Seeing this 1925 Rolls-Royce Round Door Phantom I Aerodynamic Coupe was by far the highlght of our tour at the Petersen Museum. It's size alone is overpowering. It's hard to believe that this “work of art” was consigned to a junk yard in 1950. It is not known who rescued the car from being scrapped, but East Coast entrepreneur Max Obie eventually acquired the unusual Rolls-Royce and refurbished it. Obie displayed the Round Door Rolls and charged curious enthusiasts to look at it.

1959 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite The Austin Healey bugeye Sprite is an icon of British sports cars as the 50s turned into the 60s. The “Bugeye” was built from 1958 through 1960 at which time it was replaced by the MkII Sprite and the MkI Midget. All told, almost 50,000 Bugeye's, including those assembled from CKD kits were built. The Italian Sprites were also built on the Bugeye chassis but with a different body. In addition to the 50,000 or so Bugeyes about 75,000 square body Sprites and 225,000 MG Midgets were produced between 1958 and 1979. With about 350,00 cars produced you can understand why most parts are available for these cars, both new and used. Under the skin all Sprites are basically the same and most parts are interchangeable. This also applies to the MG Midget through 1974. In 1975 the Midget switched to the Triumph 1500 engine and transmission but other than that they are still the same basic car.
